Print from your laptop from home or in the library

  • Save the file or document you want to print*.
  • Go to our online printing service
  • After you login, upload your saved file: click Choose file, select your file, and click Upload.
  • Visit the library and use the printer/copier to complete printing of your documents.
    • If collecting documents via curbside pickup, call the library to ensure your job is ready for pick up.

Print from a mobile device 

If you are printing with Smart Alec for the first time, please go to the online printing service to enter your library card number before using the mobile SmartAlec application.

* We cannot print password-protected documents of any type.

Prices to print

  • Customers can print up to 10 black and white pages per day for free. Additional pages are available at a cost of $.20 cents per page for black and white, or $1.00 per page for color.

Troubleshooting

Installation and Printing Instructions for SmartAlec

  • Download Smart Alec App from App Store and login to your account.
  • Open page/doc you need to print on device and locate "share" icon.
  • Ignore the Smart Alec app if you see it. Instead, scroll down and choose "print."
  • Some apps just have a "print" button and no "share." Ignore "Printer Options."
  • From Printer Options screen, use fingers to "pinch and zoom" document.
  • Find the "Share" icon again and tap it. A menu of apps will pop up. Scroll through to find Smart Alec.
  • Your page/doc will be loaded as a PDF to the Smart Alec app.
  • Click "Send." Page/doc will now appear as a PDF in your Smart Alec app.
  • Call your local branch to print and pick up your prints.
  • Download Smart Alec App from the Google Play Store.
  • If asked for payment, click "skip."
  • Login to your account.
  • Open document/file you want to print.
  • Select "Share" option and then "Print." Some apps just have a "print" button and no "share."
  • Choose Smart Alec from "Select a Printer" at the top of the screen.
  • Click "Print" icon. You'll be asked if you want to use Smart Alec as your printer.
  • Click "OK." Your page/doc will be loaded to the Smart Alec app.
  • Call your local branch to print and pick up your prints.
  • Save the file or document you want to print.

  • Call the library to ensure your job is ready for pick up.
  • Come to the library's curbside area and call the library for Print Pickup Service.

Print Service FAQ

  2. Visit the library to pick up your prints.

Use the instructions above to upload your saved documents or use the Smart Alec app (iOS - Android). Prints can be picked up from any AACPL Library Location.

Currently, the library provides ten free black and white copies per day. Be sure to double check your prints before you send them. No formatting or editing changes can be made after submission.

If you need something printed from a website such as a tax form or job application, please call the library for assistance. Staff are unable to fill out forms with personal information.

You can print from any computer, smart phone, or device with an internet connection.

File types allowed: pdf, doc, docx, xls, xlsx, ppt, pptx, csv, txt, html, rtf, jpg, png, bmp, jpeg, and heic. Please note: password protected documents may cause printing issues and may not be printable.

Please wait at least 15 minutes after you have uploaded your documents, then visit any branch of the library to complete printing at the printer/copier station.

If you'd like to collect your documents via curbside pickup, then call the library where you want to pick up your prints to notify the staff of your print job.

Have your library card or SmartAlec guest user number ready when you visit or call. Documents must be printed within 24 hours of uploading.

Remember to call the library first to assure that your documents are ready. Prints may be picked up at the library via curbside pickup or in the building.
