Do you live, work, attend school or own property in Maryland? If so, you are eligible for a free Anne Arundel County Public Library card.
More Information
- Go in person to any library location during library hours.
- Bring your photo ID.
- For ID, please present any one of the following credentials. The credential must be current (unexpired) and have a permanently affixed photograph.
- U.S. or foreign state driver’s license
- Government- or employer-issued identification card
- Student identification card
- Passport or consular identification card
- If you are unable to provide identification from the list above, please provide two proofs from the following list. Both identifications must have your complete name.
- Birth Certificate
- Current lease or rental agreement
- Voter registration
- Utility, telephone, credit card, or bank statement (electronic versions are acceptable)
- Vehicle registration card or title
- Social Security Card
- For ID, please present any one of the following credentials. The credential must be current (unexpired) and have a permanently affixed photograph.
*Please note If you place holds on Overdrive (Ebooks and Audiobooks) with your temporary library card number, they will be lost when you get your permanent card, unless you contact us to have the items switched to your permanent library card number.
Present any one of the following photo identification credentials:
- U.S. or foreign state driver’s license
- Government-issued ID: Military, Passport, Permanent Resident Card, Department of Corrections, or Certificate of Citizenship/Naturalization
- Student Identification Card
- Employee Identification Card
- Other forms of identification are accepted if you do not have a photo ID.
Educator’s library cards expire annually; all other library cards will expire after two years of inactivity. If your card has expired, please visit any Anne Arundel County Public Library branch in person, with identification.
Only those who live or work in Maryland are eligible.
Those who do not qualify violate the terms of agreement with our vendors and risk having their card suspended.
With your virtual library card number and PIN, you will be able to:
- Checkout eBooks and audiobooks*
- Access our premium resources
- Place holds on items in the AACPL collection. Please be sure to provide an email address and/or phone number to be notified when your holds become available.

- Online catalog. Check your due dates, track your holds and renew material, from our online catalog. You will need your library card and PIN to access your account. You can access our online catalog from your computer or any mobile device. Qualified physical items will automatically renew unless returned. Please see the Library Basics for more information.
- Set up email notifications. You can receive email notices of holds, items due soon and overdue items. Ask Library staff make the changes to your account or update your account online.
- Sign up for SMS Text Alerts. We now provide SMS Text Alerts for holds, items due soon and overdue items. Please ask a library staff member for assistance.
- Call any branch location. Call any of our branches during normal business hours to renew your material and one of our staff will assist you.
