Anne Arundel County Public Library Hosts Events to Celebrate Arab American Heritage Month

(March 26, 2025– Annapolis, MD) Anne Arundel County Public Library is offering the following events in April to celebrate Arab American Heritage Month: 

 

Malikat Al Dabke Performance 

Saturday, April 5 at 2 pm at Severna Park Library 

Saturday, April 12 at 2 pm at Busch Annapolis Library 

Saturday, April 19 at 2 pm at Severn Library 

Saturday, April 26 at 10:30 am at Odenton Library 

Join us for a performance by Malikat Al Dabke (Queens of Dabke) and experience the vibrant and rhythmic traditional dance form known as Dabke! 

 

Henna Around the World 

Saturday, April 5 at 2 pm at Riviera Beach Library 

Wednesday, April 9 at 6 pm at Maryland City at Russett Library 

Tuesday, April 22 at 6 pm at Edgewater Library 

In this event, participants are taken around the world to explore the ways henna has been adopted by cultural communities, from medicinal to body art, over thousands of years.

Tatreez with Wafa Ghnaim 

Saturday, April 19 at 2 pm 

Join Wafa Ghnaim, a Palestinian dress historian, to learn about traditional Palestinian embroidery: Tatreez, and Palestinian arts and culture.

Arab American Heritage Month Movie Night

In celebration of Arab American Heritage and National Poetry Month, enjoy a screening of The Prophet (2014) an animated anthology film adapted from Lebanese American Kahlil Gibran's 1923 prose poetry book.

Preschoolers and their caregivers will create works of art inspired by the styles and techniques of Arab and Arab American artists.

Arabic Calligraphy 

Thursday, April 24 at 6 pm 

Explore the rich history of Arabic calligraphy and the training of master calligraphers, then watch a live demonstration of pen carving, material prep and calligraphy on handmade paper. 
 

Glen Burnie Library 

Kids Create: Art inspired by Helen Zughaib 

Saturday, April 26 at 2 pm 

Kids and families are invited to learn about Lebanese American painter and multimedia artist Helen Zughaib and create a colorful work of art inspired by what we learn. 
 

Maryland City at Russett Library 

Make Art: Arab American Heritage Month 

Thursday, April 10 at 6 pm 

Learn about notable Arab American artists, then create an art piece using one of those artists' styles or techniques. Registration required and opens two weeks before the event.  

Farah Rocks Book Series - Author Visit 

Wednesday, April 23 at 6 pm 

Meet Susan Muaddi Darraj, author of the children's book series Farah Rocks. Susan will read excerpts from her books about Farah, a funny and brave girl navigating fifth grade.
