Lactation Pod Now Available at AACPL Branch

First-ever Resource Located at Mall Library

(July 9, 2024 – Annapolis, MD) The Anne Arundel County Public Library (AACPL) Foundation held a ribbon cutting today for the new, donor-funded Mamava nursing pod at its mall’s library. This first-ever in a Maryland library resource will allow breastfeeding and pumping caregivers a quiet and secure spot without having to leave the branch.

“The library is intentional in creating spaces that welcome everyone in our community and the lactation pod enhances that experience for caregivers and babies,” said Rachel Myers, branch manager at Discoveries: The Library at the Mall. “We are excited to add this resource so we can support families that come to Discoveries by providing a private, quiet and clean place for breastfeeding and pumping.”

The Discoveries: The Library at the Mall location is one of the county’s busiest branches, hosting children’s programs throughout the day. With the addition of the Mamava, the branch expands their offering of vital services to customers. The branch is also home to a community pantry which provides baby supplies, diapers and menstrual supplies. Anyone who needs help getting basic baby and/or hygiene items is welcome.

“The Library Foundation is very excited to fund such an important project which will have significant impact in the lives of woman and children who visit Discoveries,” said Karen W. Smith, past president of the board of directors.

The Mamava lactation pod was funded by the generosity of donors across the county through a $31,500 grant from the Library Foundation. The Library Foundation exists because public funding can’t cover all costs. Every dollar makes a difference to provide the library with critical funds that support dynamic programs, ever-changing technology, supplies and valued resources.  For more information about the Anne Arundel County Public Library Foundation visit: www.aacpl.net/foundation.
