Rising Senior Linda Gayle Seeks to Create Positive Change in Community
(May 30, 2023 – Annapolis, MD) The Anne Arundel County Public Library’s (AACPL) Board of Trustees recently appointed Linda Gayle as its student board member at its May 18 meeting. The Annapolis High School rising senior has full voting rights and will attend her first board committee meeting on Thursday, August 17, 2023.
“We are excited to welcome Linda to the board,” said AACPL Board of Trustee Chair Christopher Nelson. “She displayed a great deal of positive energy during her interviews and her volunteer work, activism and community involvement exhibit the promise and passion we need to enhance our library system and connect with the teens in our county.”
The term will provide the student trustee an opportunity to learn about board governance and gain valuable real-world experience serving on a governing body. Additionally, the library and its Board of Trustees will gain insight into students’ points of view on library resources, programs and materials. The student member will be able to provide valuable information that enables the system to better serve its young adult customers.
"I’m excited to join the dedicated members of the AACPL Board of Trustees by serving as the first student member, and I hope to help make my generation heard by listening to and representing the interests of my peers,” said Gayle, who is also a part of her school’s International Baccalaureate program. “Our libraries are a special community gathering space for connecting people across many backgrounds, and it’s an honor to be part of this mission."
The AACPL Board of Trustees is the library’s governing body comprised of 18 members representing all areas of the county. Trustees come to their volunteer roles with a range of experiences and backgrounds and a strong desire to ensure the long-term vitality of our public libraries. Board members must be residents of Anne Arundel County.
