A woman faces many hardships in her life, but ultimately finds extraordinary strength and hope in the unbreakable bonds of sisterhood.

This film is an adaptation of the 2005 Broadway musical of the same name. This is the second time The Color Purple has been adapted to film. The first being the 1985 film directed by Steven Spielberg. All of these adaptations are based upon the 1982 novel by Alice Walker.

Danielle Brooks was nominated for the 2024 Oscar for Best Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role.
