From Yeomanettes to Fighter Jets explores the journey of integrating women into the U.S. Navy, beginning with their roles in World War I and continuing to modern-day leadership. In her presentation, author Randy Goguen highlights how societal changes, military necessity, and the efforts of trailblazing individuals drove progress despite institutional resistance. She examines pivotal moments, from World Wars to the feminist and “Me Too” movements, which are shaping a more inclusive Navy. Today, women serve in all areas, from commanding ships to leading major operations, proving essential to mission success. Goguen shows that necessity, above all, has been the driving force behind this transformation.
