The Secret Commonwealth is the second book in the Book of Dust series. Set in a world where everyone’s soul takes the shape of an animal called a daemon, this book is about Lyra Silvertongue and her journey to find her daemon, Pantalaimon, after he runs away.
One of my favorite parts of this book was how Lyra encountered so many different communities of people who live in this world. It was always interesting to see the different groups of peoples’ traditions and customs and how they reacted to her traveling without a daemon, since normally it’s impossible for daemons to go more than a few feet away from their human.
One thing that I disliked about this book was the cliffhanger at the end. The book was so long that I figured it would have a nice resolution, but the ending left me with a bunch of questions that I hope will be answered in the next book of the series.
I would recommend this book to readers who like fantasy and adventure. The world Lyra lives in is very unique and her journey takes place throughout the whole book, making it a perfect story that both fantasy and adventure lovers would enjoy.
