Emma Nolan just wants to attend the prom with her girlfriend despite the homophobia of the entire town. When four Broadway stars hear about Emma’s injustice, they take a trip to Indiana to help her out. Even though the Broadway stars help, things still go awry. The students have a prom without Emma because her situation is still not accepted. Eventually the students realize their way of thinking was wrong and make it up to Emma.
I like this book because it shows you don’t need a big platform in order to make change. Emma uses social media to let the world know she’s not giving up on trying to be happy. She might be different but everyone is unique in their own way. The only thing I don’t like about the book is that they took out a few funny characters that were originally in the musical. The two that were taken out were my personal favorites but that didn’t stop me from enjoying the book. Other than that, the book is just like the musical.
Read to find out about what happens to Emma and the town! If you like the book, you should definitely check out the movie! I would recommend this book to anyone who has an appreciation for equality and musical theatre.
