Lovely War is told from the perspective of the Greek Gods and Goddesses. After being caught with Ares, Aphrodite must explain to Hephaestus her job as the goddess of love. To help tell her story she calls Apollo and Hades. Together, along with some of Ares’s help, they tell the story of Hazel, a pianist, James, an architect, Aubrey, a musician and Colette, a singer during World War I.
One thing I liked about this book was the writing style. The sentences were very short, yet at the same time they were very descriptive making it easy to imagine what is happening. I also really liked the characters and how they interacted. The dialogue was very realistic and so were the interactions between the characters.
One thing I disliked about this book was that the chapters were told by different characters. I liked how the narration was different depending on the narrator but it made it a little confusing since it was written in first person.
I would recommend this book to readers who like historical fiction since the main story of the book takes place during World War I. It was very interesting to see how the war affected all of the characters’ lives. I would also recommend this book to readers who like Greek Mythology since the story is told by the Greek Gods and Goddesses.
