Finding Jupiter by Kelis Rowe

By Addison C., Chesapeake High School

Finding Jupiter is a story following Ray and Orion who meet at the roller skating rink. As they grow closer they begin to wonder if this is just a summer fling or is it meant to be. Yet as they fall for one another, family secrets threaten to break them apart. Told in dual perspective between Ray and Orion you get to see them falling in love from both sides.

Ray and Orion both felt very realistic to me and character development was very well throughout and executed. The imagery was skillfully written and I could see the story unfolding before me. I listened to the audiobook and thought the voice actors were amazing. The book went against typical stereotypes as Ray was the closed off, not easily trusting/reluctant one whereas Orion was very emotional and fell head over heels. There was also a shocking twist towards the end that I was not expecting from a book about two teenagers and their first summer love. The biggest downfall in my opinion was the slow beginning as not much was happening while Orion and Ray were just getting to know one another. Yet if you can push through it the story progresses quickly.

I would give this book 4/5 stars and recommend this to anyone who wants a nice summer love story with a few twists. Those who like romance, dual perspectives, and character driven stories would enjoy this book.
