Cemetery Boys by Aiden Thomas

Cemetery Boys is a novel about a trans guy, Yadriel, and his journey to be accepted by his family, though other problems arise along the way. Together, with his cousin Maritza, and the ghost he accidentally summons, Julian, he navigates through the mystery of his cousin’s mysterious death and everything else that gets in his way.

I liked so many things about this book. The characters were well written and realistically flawed. It was a perfect blend of Latinx culture laced with fantasy, mystery, romance and memorable character interactions. It also has LGBTQ+ representation that reads in a natural and realistic way. One of my favorite books yet! The only thing I would change about this book is that I want more. I really loved this book and I loved the richly written settings it took place in. I didn’t want it to ever end.

I recommend this to people who like fantasy books or want to read a book with LGBTQ+ and Latinx representation. In addition, it is written by a queer author, so for people who want a book written by a queer author, this is a good one. There are sensitive topics like misgendering, as well as some non-graphic violence, so I wouldn’t recommend this to readers that could possibly be triggered by these topics.
