Celebrate Noirvember with Select Noir Films on Kanopy

Cinephiles, rejoice! You may know that AACPL customers can access a vast repository of streaming films for free via Kanopy with your library card . . . but did you also know that Kanopy has curated a special collection of 35 film noir offerings for the month of November?

We here at the library are quite excited about this special collection, aptly called Noirvember, and encourage library users to browse the list, which can be accessed from the top of the Kanopy homepage.

These nearly three dozen films offered on Kanopy range from classics of the 1930s to more contemporary productions of the past decade, and were carefully selected in consultation with the Film Noir Foundation and other similar organizations. The selection also includes both English films, and foreign language films in French, Hungarian, Russian, and Swedish.

Whether it's your favorite genre or you're discovering it for the first time, we predict you'll enjoy the distinctive style and cinematography of the film noir offerings, along with the gritty, thoughtful subject matter.

Some highlights within the Kanopy Noirvember collection include the seminal film Breathless by Jean-Luc Goddard (1960), the Oscar winner Chinatown (1974), the massive Swedish hit The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (2009), and The Hitch-Hiker(1953) -- one of the only film noir offerings directed by a woman.

We also recommend you peruse tweets using the hashtag #Noirvember on Twitter to learn more about the beauty of film noir as a genre.
