The war ended only 10 years ago and the hunger games are just beginning. The future president of Panem is forced to struggle to hide just how much the war ruined his family and to try to win the games. Along the way he falls in love with his tribute and starts to doubt the morality of the Capital.
I particularly liked how the book was split into two major sections and that the first could have been a standalone book on its own and how it explained the reason why so much of what happened in the first three books happened. I did dislike how much it tried to call back to the original trilogy because some of the times it did seem entirely unnecessary and didn’t advance the story at all.
I also disliked the sheer amount of pages that each song took up and how out of character or unexplained many of the more important choices people made were but, all in all, these complaints about it are only minor problems. I would recommend this book to anyone who was a fan of the original Hunger Games trilogy as a lot of it would make little sense without knowledge of those three to explain.
