Program Description

Event Details

Stars much more massive than our Sun undergo spectacular, violent deaths: they explode! The carbon, nitrogen, and other atoms that they forged in their nuclear furnaces go on to form the basis of clouds of gas and dust from which solar systems and planets form... including our own.

Join us as retired NASA astronomer Dr. Rich Isaacman returns by popular demand to describe these supernovae: what causes them, whether we can predict them, and how we study them with both space- and ground-based telescopes. We will even see actual video of one of them in action!

Registration is required to receive the Zoom link.

This event is part of the Maryland City at Russett Library monthly Virtual Visit series, where we hope to present topics of interest to adults. Join us on October 2 for Liven Up Your LinkedIn
