To save her ill son, a field mouse must seek the aid of a colony of rats, with whom she has a deeper link than she suspected.

This film was writer and director Don Bluth's first feature film after working as an animator for Disney since Sleeping Beauty (1959). It won the 1983 Saturn award for best animated film. It is an adaptation of the 1970 children's science fiction/fantasy book Mrs. Frisby and the Rats of NIMH by Robert C. O'Brien.
