Body and Soul follows the exploits of an escaped prisoner (Paul Robeson in his film debut) who seeks refuge in the town of Tatesville, Georgia, by passing himself off as a Reverend. He is joined in town by a fellow criminal, and the pair scheme to swindle the phony reverend's congregation of their offerings.  This landmark silent film was directed by Oscar Micheaux, touted as the first Black Filmmaker.

Joining our discussion will be special guests Fritzi Kramer, silent film expert and creator of Movies Silently. and Annelisa Purdie, reference librarian and classic movie enthusiast.

Not rated, 92 min.

Hosted by the Maryland City at Russett Library
