The Inheritance Games by Jennifer Lynn Barnes is a young adult mystery novel. This is the first book in The Inheritance Games series.
This story follows a girl by the name Avery Grambs who inherits the fortune of billionaire Tobias Hawthorne. Avery grew up with not a lot of money, so when she learns she's been named in Hawthorne's will, someone she has no relation to, she's surprised. Soon she realized though, that this was too good to be true.
As we get deeper into the story, Avery faces many challenges, one of these being the jealousy of the Hawthorne family. She makes alliances and considers who she should trust. This book is filled with many plot twists and mysteries.
My favorite aspect of this book was the mystery element and anticipating what will happen next. I also enjoyed the family dynamic and the characters, especially Xander and how kind he was to Avery despite everything. I also think this book does a good job in exploring the importance of family and loyalty as the Hawthorne brothers learn to get along and forgive each other for past mistakes.
Something I didn't like about this book or found too confusing was the family tree. For example, as the story progresses, we think that Avery is related to the Hawthorne family when she really isn't. I found a lot of this to be misleading and confusing.
I would recommend this book to those who like mystery and romance. Another book I find similar to this one is One of Us Is Lying by Karen M. McManus.
