The Hate U Give is a compelling story about a girl's life and struggles to fit into the world. Unlike many other young adult books, The Hate U Give is from the perspective of a black teenage girl. Angie Thomas perfectly captured the life and struggles of being a black teen in today's world. I loved how it was realistic, and the author did not shy away from hard topics that are often overlooked because they are "too hard" to talk about. This book is truly a work of art.
Different situations kept me on my toes and wondering what would happen next. It is such a raw, moving, and touching book that was a great read. Angie Thomas really put me into the life of someone who faces racial struggles every single day—struggles that I did not even really understand until after reading this book. The only thing I would want to change was the length of the book- LOL. I feel like it could have been a bit longer, but other than that, The Hate U Give is a wonderful book that I feel everyone should read. I mostly recommend for people who like realistic fiction books or are interested in the issues of police brutality and racial discrimination. Everyone should read it to gain a new perspective, but ESPECIALLY ones who prefer this genre.
