This book is a collection of short stories that expand your knowledge of this world. I recommend you read the books before this (Scythe, Thunderhead, and The Toll) to get the beginning of the story, although this book can be read independently. The book gives information about the whereabouts of Scythe Anastasia and her unique gleaning methods, Scythe Lucifer's actions after being cast out, and a very intriguing backstory of Scythe Goddard before he even became the infamous Scythe Goddard.
I liked this book because the characters felt real and relatable and provides differing points of view so you can get the full story from more than one viewpoint. The characters act how real people would act, making the story feel more real. The stories keep you on edge and can be read anywhere. The dialogue and the relations between characters are on point, and the plot keeps you on the edge of your seat. However, it should not be so confusing that you cannot understand what they are reading.
Readers who can visualize scenes will enjoy this book tremendously, as will readers who can think extensively about the stories and what might happen next. Fans of dystopian, fantasy, and science fiction stories will love this book, as will readers who like fast-paced action.
