Aurora Rising by Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff

By Ella R., Severna Park Middle School

Set over 300 years in the future, Aurora Rising follows a ragtag group of cadets in a journey to save the galaxy. Tyler would have gotten the squad of his dreams if it weren't for the fact that he missed initiation. He's stuck with the cadets nobody wanted - his sassy and sarcastic twin sister, his pilot best friend (whom he definitely is not into), a sociopath scientist with almost no emotion in her body, a cocky alien that cannot stop flirting, and an alien warrior with serious anger issues. The wild card is the girl who Tyler saved - Aurora O'Malley. Stuck in cryo-freeze for 200 years, Aurora is in a completely different world when she wakes up.

I loved this book. It was a fast-paced and hilarious sci-fi read, with a bit of romance in between all the action. It has a little bit of something for everyone, with seven different and relatable main characters and switching perspectives. I honestly fell in love with all the characters, they were so well thought out. The story line was interesting and unique to other science fantasy reads. The plot has many twists and turns, and when I finished, I was ready for the next book. I finished this trilogy in a week - I could not put it down!

Aurora Rising was an exciting satisfying read for any fans of science fiction, fantasy, or romance, and definitely worth picking up.
