Akane Banashi, a comedy written by Yuki Suenaga follows the perspective of Akane as she follows in her fathers footsteps of becoming a rakugo, which is essentially a professional storyteller. Akane has a large amount of pride in her fathers storytelling work and looks up to him, so when he fails his exam to become a shinuchi, a higher ranked rakugo, and is shunned by the rakugo world, she vows to avenge him by showing critics that his style of rakugo is the best. As the story progresses we see Akane's perspective as she becomes better at rakugo and learns under her master.
I really enjoyed this book because it really kept me engaged and livened up my day. I plan to continue reading the series as more books are released, and would recommend it to others who read the series. My favorite character in the book is master Shiguma, Akane's rakugo teacher. Whether it's intentional or not, he livens up the cast with his funny demeanor and ironic timing. My favorite moment in the book was when master Shiguma was practicing rakugo to mentally prepare himself for meeting Akane's mother. This is the first book in the series and I would recommend it to anyone who has some spare time and enjoys comedy series.
